Better Than a Reality Show
Earlier this week, the SEO team here at ECW was highly entertained by a blog post about Google’s Matt Cutts and John Mu outing a “sketchy SEO company” on a Google Webmaster help forum thread. We couldn’t stop watching this train wreck (think reality show for SEO geeks.)
Short version: this guy was trying to pretend he wasn’t part of the sketchy company in question. However, the Google guys caught on and outed him publicly. Instead of quitting when he was behind, he continued to post long, rambling posts spewing forth meaningless jargon and incorrect information. The more he posted, the worse he made himself and his company look. He obviously never got my dad’s sage advice, “know when to quit.”
People like this give the SEO community a bad name. There are plenty of people who don’t understand SEO that can easily fall for the jargon and double-talk of someone who will happily take advantage of them. Then, companies that have been burned by false SEO’s lose out because they don’t see results, decide SEO is a waste of money and remove it from their marketing plan. There goes any new business they could have gotten through search engines.
Luckily, this guy went up against the real experts and he couldn’t fool them. CHEERS! to Matt Cutts and John Mu (and all the other posters) for exposing this guy’s true colors.
