Binghoo – What It Means for Industrial Websites

Filed under: Google & Other Search Engines,Industrial SEO — Anna Slyter

Last month, Yahoo announced that the transition to using Bing’s search engine technology for organic search results was complete. We’ve been watching to see what, if any impact this has had on our client websites.

This month, it appears that keyword rankings in Yahoo are now the same, or very close (within a position or two) as Bing’s rankings, which wasn’t the case before the merger. Also, many clients saw big fluctuations for keyword rankings in Bing.

Interestingly, many of these industrial keyword rankings in Bing are much closer to the rankings shown in Google as well. This could just be a temporary coincidence, and time will tell if keyword rankings in Bing show any more consistency than they have in the past.

What it means for industrial websites:

1. Now that Bing powers Yahoo’s search, searches performed using Bing technology are a significant portion of searches. A whopping 25% of searches according to Hitwise.

2. If you haven’t started using Bing’s Webmaster Tools to submit your XML sitemap and gain insight into how Bing views your website, you’ll want to get on that sooner than later.

3. If you’re doing in-house SEO, you’ll want to brush up on Bing’s SEO Tips and Guidelines.
