Video for My Company!?
I am sure that you have heard about the numerous viral videos that find their way to every person in the world ( or so it seems). Most that you hear about are the ones that showcase an upcoming young singer/musician or possibly the “fail” video of someone being very stupid. These are of course not what you are looking for in your corporate video, but who wouldn’t like the popularity that these videos are receiving online.
OK, I will not pretend to be a video critic or producer of great content. So I am not going to tell you what content you need on your company video, but I do know that showcasing your products/services is key here. I am instead going to talk about how to optimize that video once you have it loaded on youtube.
There can also be another debate on whether you should “post or host”, and that is for another discussion.
I have recently read some interesting facts on optimizing your videos on youtube, sort of a youtube algorithm list. The following lists some of the factors that Greg Markel listed recently at the Search Engine Strategies New York conference.
- title
- description
- tags
- views
- ratings
- playlist additions
- flagging

- embeds
- shares
- comments
- age of video
- channel views
- subscribers
We can talk about some of these a little more in depth:
Title: This is very important no matter what type of SEO you are talking about. Make sure you write a compelling, interesting, “watch me now” title that contains keywords relevant to what the viewer is going to see.
Description: This will follow the same rules as any other SEO as well, make sure that this describes what the user will see and that it is interesting enough to get them to click play.
Tags: These are the same as your keyword tag on your Web Site: List as many as possible to have your potential viewers find your video.
Views: This is a catch 22–you have to get viewers before you get a “view” number–so push the URL of the video out to as many people as you can–have you co-workers, distributors, etc “check out your video”. Do this as quickly after posting as you can.
Ratings: Again encourage those that you know will view your video to rate it high–the higher the better for youtube rankings.
Embeds: The more places that your video is embedded the better–this also equates to more views. Try to place your video on multiple pages of your website (but make sure it is in an applicable spot), also get your distributors, retailers, etc. to embed your video on their sites.
Subscribers: The more subscribers to your channel, the more “power” it will have. Encourage everyone you know to subscribe to your channel.
All of the above will not only help in your youtube video views, but you will also have a much better chance of your video being found in the Universal Google search. Many youtube videos are now being shown in the top google results, and there is increasing evidence of searchers using the search by video option that google has as well.
