So You Want to Dominate the Search Results Pages?

Search engines have evolved over time to make the search experience better for users. Although this evolution has made online marketing more complex, it has also opened up new ways for potential customers to find your products and services. You have the opportunity not only to rank in the normal results, but also in results for images, video, shopping, local, and more.

Here are 5 additional ways to get search engine visibility:

1. Local/Maps Search Results. Google will often show local results (see below example) when geographic modifiers, like city or state are used in searches. To increase your odds of showing up at the top of local results, you’ll want to claim and optimize your listings in the Google Local Business Center.

2. Image Results. By optimizing your images, you can increase the odds that you’ll show up in Google’s Image results (shown below). There are many tactics for this, and we’ve got a past blog post that discusses it here.

3. Shopping Results. If you use ecommerce software to sell products online, check to see if it has a Google Shopping Feed built in. (The ecommerce solution from Ecreativeworks does.) It will allow you to easily submit your products to Google’s shopping results (example below) through a Google Merchant Center account.

4. Adwords Images. If you have your Google Merchant Center account set up, and are running paid ads through Google Adwords, you can opt to show your images in the paid results (see below.) It’s a great way to stand out from the text ads.

5. Video Results. Videos are a great way to draw more visitors into your site. So make sure to optimize your videos and make it easy for search engines to show them (as seen in the example below.)
