Justin Briggs of Paramore|Redd recently did a recap of a session at SMX 2009. Specifically in his recap he wrote a few choice bullet points about how people are leveraging YouTube. For the industrial marketplace, I found these methods particularly relevant.
Reasons Businesses are Utilizing YouTube
- Focus group – for companies that receive many visitors to their site daily, and want to roll out a new product or program, a YouTube video is a great way to ‘Pilot’ the new addition. Whether it’s a product demo or an idea for a new site forum, creating a short explanatory video is a great way to receive feedback on the initiative. Users who view the video on your YouTube channel will feel like they’re an “insider” getting to help decide whether to add a new element to the main website, which helps to foster trust down the line.
- Expert advice – watching the engineer or CEO of a company describing how to use or troubleshoot a product is a simple yet powerful way to reach out to your consumers. It personalizes your approach to working with your customers, and could help you to snare repeat customers for life.
- Customer service – this use for YouTube has incredible potential. For many people seeing is believing, and seeing a demonstration of how to remedy a product problem will make things all better – much faster. If you have a common customer service issue, record an engineer talking through the solution. FAQ’s are great and useful, but less personal. Having a video that relates to your exact problem, makes you feel much more taken care of than when you have to scroll through lifeless text.
YouTube is definitely more than an entertainment site, it is a channel to personalize your approach to customer service and customer relations. For more information how to work with videos on your site, including YouTube, check out our Webinar on video optimization.
