Back at it! SEO for the Summer
Brynn here, from the SEO group. We are happy to be back for a short week, and hope you had a great long weekend. Now that Memorial Day has come and gone, it really feels like summer is truly here. It’s time for weekend camping, days in the yard and anything outdoors. Well, that is great for the mind and body, but could be bad for your website. Summer is a time to relax and enjoy life, but don’t fall into the trap of ignoring your website, or putting your SEO efforts on summer break. The months after summer include the high volume holiday traffic, and it is important to keep your website ready to snare as many qualified visits as possible.
We in the SEO field love content, but not just any content. We love organized, inspired and interesting content. But the inside of a cubicle is less-than-inspiring, so sometimes creating engaging content is a challenge. The clarity of a summer afternoon is just the ticket to get your blog posts, white papers and web content written, and written well.
Blog Posts:
Who says all writing has to be done on your computer? If you’re maintaining a blog, summertime can actually be a great time for inspiration. Sit outside with a pen and paper (yes, these things still exist) and jot down ideas for blog posts, or write a few short blog posts. Blog posts should be informative and somewhat casual so let your atmosphere influence your writing. Be yourself and allow your blogs to reflect your personality. Authentic blog posts will help to increase readership down the road. Later, when you’re on the computer, you can quickly type up your content, add images and hyperlinks, and your readers will never know that the content was created under the beautiful sun.
White Papers:
Creating a white paper can be an important asset to your website and could elevate your whole company’s status as an industry leader. A well-planned, eloquent white paper is not easy to write, however. Writing requires thought, peace and quiet and time. Again, the summer is a great time for content generation. Sitting outside with a notebook without the din of other computers, telephones and office noise, you will likely write more quickly and clearly. Plus, if you make each writing session pleasant, you will be more motivated to continue your writing throughout the summer. By Fall, you could have an incredibly valuable document to post on your site.
Web Content:
Freshen up your existing content, or add new pages to your website. Take a copy of your web pages out of the office and see them from a new perspective. You might realize that your content is confusing, or the page itself could be more usable. Sometimes it takes a change of scenery to see things in a new light.
Enjoy your summer!

Personally I love to set up my laptop outside and work as I enjoy the warm sun.

The only problem I’ve run into is the sun being too bright that I can’t see my screen. I wonder if there’s some product that helps with this.
