The Great SEO Easter Egg Hunt

I’ll admit – I am in the Easter spirit. Though I’m in the office – this is still a GOOD Friday. Because I’m doing SEO of course, helping clients rank in the search engines and achieve the results they deserve. I wanted to a festive blog post, and was thinking about Easter eggs, and the lovely tradition of Easter Egg hunts. As I drifted off into memories of scouring the park for colorful eggs, I felt a metaphor coming. Link building and SEO efforts are kind of like Easter egg hunts. Don’t roll your eyes.

You see in SEO we submit press releases, create social profiles, write articles and Tweet about things. We place little “eggs” of content all over the web so that people can find them. Some people like to look in Google for content. Some people find content through Twitter and Facebook. Other people read blogs or press releases. Everyone searches differently, just like children all approach an Egg hunt with their own special strategy. Some like to look in the obvious places, others like to look under branches where no one has been. So the lesson from this Easter metaphor is this: because everyone searches in their own special way, you want to place your content all over the web. Obvious places like Google are great, and obscure places like comments on blogs. Dispersing your content in a variety of ways ensures that everyone will find your “eggs”.

Happy Easter everyone!
