Improve your Industrial Website in 2009
With the year coming to a close, it’s a good time to evaluate your website and determine what changes you should make in 2009. How can you increase traffic? Is there a way to improve conversion tracking? Is your website out of date? Here are some ideas to consider…
Conversions and Sales
This is often the most overlooked area of your website. In order to get sales you have to make it easy for your potential customers to contact you. Look at every page of your site. Is there a clear call to action? You should be able to find a phone number and a Contact Us or Request a Quote link immediately when you look at the page. Use large font, contrasting colors, images and buttons to make your calls to action stand out.
You also should track these contacts, or conversions, to evaluate the success of your website. Do you database your contact and request a quote forms? Do you have a unique toll free number for your website? When people call, are you asking them how they found you? Are you tracking your conversions through a web analytics program to see what websites are sending the most conversions? If you have PPC programs, are you tracking those conversions? All of these are an important to effectively track your conversions.
Traffic to your Website
There are many ways to increase relevant traffic to your industrial website, but one of the best ways is to add more content to your site. Make a commitment in 2009 to write at least one new page of content every month! You will be rewarded for you time. Read these two posts for ideas to get started –

Website Design
When was your last site redesign? If it’s been over five years, you’re probably ready for a redesign. If it’s been at least three years, you should research your competition to see if it’s time for a new look. Search your keywords in Google and make a list of your top 5 – 10 competitors. Next, visit each site and compare them to yours. Is your site as modern and up-to-date looking as theirs? If your site looks dated compared to the majority of your competitors, consider a redesign.

Another alternative to conversion tracking tool available on the net is mvispy.com I have been using the service for past few months and it has worked out well for me.
I have been able to do live visitor tracking. MVISPY offers a unique combination of features like real-time visitor data, IP name lookup, conversions tracking (3 ways), email alerts, live or proactive chat, tracking web leads from search engine to conversion, insert leads into sales lead systems, determine what pages don’t work & track click fraud - all while determining what people are looking for, what keywords work best.
Some of the features offered by MVISPY that are not offered by Analytics are
- real time tracking on website
- IP look up with company name address and Jigsaw drill down feature
- Tracking conversion 3 different ways with email alerts
- Live pro active chat features that will pop up after a preset number of page views or visitor length on the site and when arrives at preset page
- SPY shows trails from Search engine to site thru purchase on one display (not done by Google)
- Auto insert of sales leads in sales Lead system
- Determine what pages don’t work by real time bounce data (Gogole has)
