New Local Search Figures

Recent new figures on the local search market were released this week by TMP and comScore, and it looks like search engines have finally nudged the yellow and white pages out of first place.  Local search directories are sill lagging behind a bit, but they’ve gained in popularity as well.

•    Search Engines (31%)
•    Print Yellow Pages or White Pages (30%)
•    Internet Yellow Pages Sites (19%)
•    Local Search Sites (11%)
30% of people now search for local business online, compared with 26% last year.  According to the report, after the online lookup, “consumers most often contact a business over the telephone (39%), visit the business in-person (32%) or contact the business online (12%).”  Also, 20% of people with internet capable cell phones have done mobile local search (for those with smart phones, the figure is above 50%).
