How Important is to Rank #1?
A few weeks ago I was going over a keyword ranking report with a client. One of his most important keywords, used welding positioner, was ranked #9 in Google. He asked me “how many people are actually clicking on the #9 search result?” I didn’t have an answer for him, but I thought it was a great question. After some research, I came across some data taken from AOL on their click results.

As you can see, being #1 is pretty important. The #1 result gets clicked on 40% of the time. The #2 position gets 13% of the clicks, the #3 position gets 8%, and #9 where my client’s keyword is ranked is only getting 3% of the clicks.
Obviously the #1 position is where you want to be, but it’s next to impossible to rank #1 for all of your keywords. So what is the answer? If you increase the number of keywords that you rank for, you can still get a bunch of traffic from the lower positions. The best way is to add new content for your website. You can create new pages or add more copy to existing pages, both will increase the total number of keyword rankings. Here are some ways to create new content:

I have been working hard to even get on the 1st page with Google but it seems like despite all of my efforts I am not making much progress for my keywords but I have found I can get my products (manufacturer & model #) to show up on page one almost every time. http://www.rexxsales.com
