SEO Mistakes You Should Avoid
Here are some common mistakes you want to avoid when it comes to your industrial website and SEO -
Do Not Optimize for the Wrong Keywords
Keywords are the heart of optimization, so you need to make sure you optimize for the right ones. Make sure your keywords are specific to what you do and not too broad. If you’re a contract manufacturer of gaging systems you want to optimize for “precision gaging systems” not “gages”.
Do Not use Javacript or Flash in your Navigation
This one can be a killer. The search engines have often have trouble reading text and following links that are in flash or javascript. The search engines may not be able to find all of your pages, and if they do, these pages may not rank well. Text navigation is the way to go.
Do Not Use Hidden Text
Sometimes a person will repeat their keyword over and over on a page with text that matches the background to try to rank high for that word. When you look at the page, you don’t see it, but if you look at the coding of the page it’s there. This goes against Google’s Webmaster’s Guidelines and doing this can get your site banned from Google entirely. Never, never do this.
Do Not Obsess over your Rankings
I know, this can be a tough one. It’s easy to get caught up in the cycle of constantly monitoring your rankings. The trouble is, it’s not going to improve your rankings one iota and it may even drive you a bit mad! Instead, use that time to improve your site. How about contacting clients and gather testimonials to add to your site? Maybe you create a white paper on one your processes? You can use this to show your authority in your industry.
Make sure you avoid these four mistakes and you’d on your way to success in the search engines.
