Finding Your Niche on the Internet

It is hard to find places to post comments, articles or ideas for people in the industrial market. If you had a website that was all about metal stamping where do you begin to start building an online network?

Some ideas that have been discussed before are:

  1. Thomas Register
  2. Industrial Quick Search
  3. Kelly Search
  4. Global Spec
  5. MacRae’s Blue Book

But those are all places where you can purchase links or a program where your products are listed in their database. The only content you may be able to provide is a brief description of your company. This is valuable as Thomas Net especially gets decent exposure in the search results, but it is not a detailed document that brings additional outsiders.

Wouldn’t it be more interesting to gain your traffic from people that are willing to read and learn about you and your product. Think of social marketing in the industrial market as part of the research process in the consumer buying behavior. If a client wants to learn more about metal stamping, for example, they can search in Google, they can browse through some of theĀ  first websites that appear, but then they can also go to the Social Marketing Networks of their interests. They might be an active reader of Ezine Articles. So they would search for Metal Stamping there. They might have a few different blogs that they visit, so they would search for metal stamping in blogs or forums. Or they could also check out some of these sites for leads on metal stamping:

  1. Stumble Upon
  2. My Space
  3. Facebook
  4. Yahoo! Answers
  5. LinkedIn
  6. Reddit
  7. Squidoo
  8. Digg
  9. Del.icio.us

If you are creating an authority on your topic, finding your niche on the Internet, then you will be showing up in results that aren’t just from Google, Yahoo and MSN’s website results. You will be found in YouTube and other Social Marketing Areas. This will bring more traffic and build your credibility as a resource. This may take a little time to create that authority, but it will pay off in the long run.
