Optimizing Your Blog
I just got done reading an article from a magazine called Visibility for optimizing your blog. The author talks about the “7 Easy Steps to a Well-Optimized Blog.” I thought I would share it with you, because this may be the next step to generate traffic for you.
Blogs are great for search engine marketing because they provide fresh content on a subject matter-frequently-to the search engines. Search Engines thrive on fresh content and will come back to visit quite often if the blog is updated regularly.
Here are the tips.
1. Have your blog on a subdomain. This will be most effective if the domain has page rank. This will bring your blog entries right to the top and support the domain’s url also.
Here at Ecreativeworks we decided to have our own url, but the url supports our services and is optimized for a target market. Industrial Search Engine Marketing is our specialty and it logically fits the content of the blog.
I think both ways will work for optimizing your url. The thing to keep in mind is that you want it to make sense.
2. The second recommendation for optimizing your blog was to have good keyword phrases in the title and content of the blog. Make sure all of the keywords are searched often and are relevant to your post.
3. Use plug-ins to help you create unique titles, meta description and keywords for each post.
4. Slugs-a new term to me, but this is the blog software that you can use for posting a blog. A slug posts the dynamic url and inserts the optimized title as part of the url of a post. So–a slug lets you optimize your urls also! This is another place to put a keyword.
Places for optimized content:
- URL
- Page Title
- Post Title
- Keywords
- Meta Description
- Content
5. Let the search engines know that your blog has been updated. Set a ping to the different search engines and blogs that you are a part of. This lets them know to come back and visit. (This works a little bit like the “pokes” on Facebook. Simply an indicator of your presence!)
6. Submissions is always a recommendation. Submit your blog to different directories or other places for RSS Feeds.
7. And lastly, keep your content fresh. What is the recommended amounts of blogs in a week? Three. This will keep the search engines happy, as well as your visitors.
Blogs are the latest hit for new online marketing strategies, but you need to be dedicated to your blog to make it successful!
