Search Engine Strategies Conference: Chicago – Day One:: Google Gadgets?
This is my second SES Conference and I knew by just looking at the scheduled sessions that I was going to learn a lot about the new trends in search engine optimization. One of the best session was the one entitled “Driving Traffic to your site with Google”. The importance of Webmaster Central was reiterated, which was great. Most of my clients are signed up with Webmaster Central and we are able to get a lot of really valuable information. If you are not in Google’s webmaster central – sign up right away.
I also learned about Google Gadgets which is only found if you use a personalized homepage by Google. Apparently, about 20% of Google users have a personalized homepage. Google Gadgets give people the ability to create little ‘boxes’ and put any type of information you want. Currently, it’s being used by “Word of the Day” or “Bible Verse of the day” or even games like Hangman – which is an extremely popular gadget to add to your site.
Now, how does this apply to industrial search engine marketing? I would think savvy internet users like marketing directors in industrial companies might have a personalized homepage. To create a gadget that would be informative or fun, could mean driving free traffic to your site. For instance, the “Word of the Day” gadget has a link that says “Learn this Word” which takes the user to the website.
To create a gadget, you would obviously need a programmer to code something for you. Or work with a company that can do it for you. Be creative!! If you can create this, it could mean valuable traffic to your site.
